Meet the Farmer: A Slow Food Brisbane event supporting

Think local, Eat local, Value local.

Millen Farm Tour, Talk and Morning Tea

Sunday 20th May, 2018, 9.30 – 11.00 am

Join us in the beautiful Samford Valley on Brisbane’s outskirts for a tour of Millen Farm where the focus is Learn, Grow, Feast something that ties in remarkably well with the Slow Food philosophy of Good, Clean, Fair for all. Millen Farm (www.millenfarm.org/) is a not for profit organization in the Samford Valley (2204 Mt Samson Road, Samford).  Their aim is to be a catalyst for an expanding local food system in the region.

Arran Heidemann is Millen Farm’s first farmer. Our farm tour will be led by Arran who will tell us about how Millen Farm came to be and how he became their farmer.   Arran believes in the future of farming and uses his passion to show people there is a better way to produce food locally by educating the community and demonstrating simple, sustainable farming practices. We will learn about the farm, the produce he grows and how he created a sustainable and productive patch from a bare pasture block.

This is a great opportunity to pick up some useful hints and tips to help improve our own soil and get more from our home gardens.

Arran’s produce is available from the Millen Farm Real Farmers’ Market on site each Wednesday afternoon and he also supplies the acclaimed local restaurant Pause with the freshest possible product for their delicious menu.  Greg Robson, owner of Pause says: “We have our own bio-dynamic permaculture farm 300 metres up the road. People love coming here, knowing our produce is grown so close.”  He is, of course, referring to Millen Farm.

Tea, coffee and a yummy morning tea will be provided with a choice of sweet and savoury delights made with Arran’s Millen Farm produce.
